Some Bad News

Hello to all of Greg’s friends. This is a message being written by his family. We don’t know any of you, but we felt you should be told of recent events none-the-less. As you know, Greg has been on vacation in Hawaii. This morning, Greg went out surfing on the beach. He has been taking lessons, and enjoys it a great deal. However, today was not one of his better days and on what would have been his last surf of the day, Greg slipped off his board, hit his head, and cut up his leg on a rock just under water. He was rushed to the Honolulu Hospital emergency room where we all waited nervously, until a doctor finally let us in to see him. Greg was in a coma.

Greg is breathing steadily, but the doctors do not know when he will wake up, or even if he ever will. He looks very comfortable in his current state, though, and we will definitely not be “pulling the plug” on him. We will just keep praying for him to wake up. He seems to be able to hear us, somewhat. He reacted slightly to all of our voices, in slight adjustments of his blood pressure and breathing, and he even smiled at the sound of Clara’s voice. We are all very hopeful that he will wake up, but we felt you all would want to know about it. We are also asking for your help. The doctors say that since he can hear us, there is a chance that his brain is somewhat awake, and believe that if he hears more conversations, it will wake his brain up more. We are asking that you send him some e-mails for us to read for him. He would love to hear them, we think, and it would let him know that people really do care about him. If you need to know it, his email is gtom5556@hotmail.com. Thank you for all your help and please pray for him with us. (And don’t worry; we will turn a blind eye to all of your ages.)

A few final notes: if the unthinkable happens, and he does die, we are going to auction off all his Magic cards and his Transformers collection. The proceeds will help to pay for his funeral, and an undecided amount will also be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the hospital where Greg got his life-saving operations as a young child, in his name. You should feel free to help bid on these collections, or simply donate directly there yourself. We will post links to the auction on eBay if that should happen.

Thanks to all of you. Please help spread this message to those of Greg’s friends who may have not seen this yet.
